Future of healthcare technology
If asked, what would be your forecast for this year’s most important healthcare technology? Thirteen executives from across the country weighed in with responses generally falling into three categories.
Patient Technology Digital communication will expand with and for patients from self-scheduling and check-in to remote monitoring, wearable device information, health diaries and the patient’s medical history. With expanded data integration to seamlessly connect across providers and health systems, patients will be more engaged in their care, and empowered in their health decisions in a more personal, convenient and cost-effective manner.
AI Technology The future will find AI connecting with digital endpoint technologies such as online scheduling, asynchronous, video visits, voice and application programming interfaces. Ambient AI helps caregivers focus their time and attention on patients instead of typing into their EHR. Predictive modeling has proven to effectively identify, weeks in advance, surges in diseases like COVID-19, allowing clinicians and hospitals to better manage precious resources such as PPE, beds and ventilators.
Machine-Learning Technology Machine learning is capable of improving the health outcomes of patients and reducing the workload of clinicians. This type of technology holds the promise to help transform care and streamline clinicians’ workflow while also lowering the rising costs of healthcare with the ability to process large datasets to generate clinical insights for medical practitioners.
