Relocate for better mental healthcare?
We don’t have to tell you that events that began in 2020 have wreaked havoc on the state of mental health in the U.S. Fortunately, some states have increased support and treatment for mental health conditions – some more so than others.
What are the best locales for mental healthcare? CertaPet’s published report this month has the answers.
The emotional support dog company examined data from 50 of the most populous cities to find out which are the best and worst for mental health treatment. Outcomes were based on the following seven factors related to accessibility and cost of care, plus the quality of life in each state:
- therapy session rate
- total prescription charges
- mandatory treatment laws grade
- criminalization of mental illness
- number of residents per mental health provider
- poor mental health days
- overall community well-being
The results? Denver was rated as the best overall city for mental health care followed by Salt Lake City, Seattle, Minneapolis and Hartford, Conn.
At the other end of the spectrum, the top five worst cities are: Dallas, Houston, Jacksonville, San Antonio, and Tampa, Fl. The report also features best and worst cities for each of the evaluated categories. Plenty of stats and anecdotal information round out this timely report.
