Our contribution to your Thanksgiving feast
In honor of thanksgiving with its “turkey and trimmings” menu, we’ve gathered up some fascinating findings about our feathered friends.
Birds provide beneficial boosts
A new study found that the mental health impact of being around birds revealed valuable results. Using the Urban Mind app, participants reported three times a day whether they could see or hear birds and the status of their mental well-being. Results showed that hearing or seeing birdlife improved the well-being for people with or without depression, and that working near natural settings can increase life satisfaction equivalent to $150 per week. How’s your self-control?
Research substantiates that many bird types have plenty of it—especially corvids, crows, jays, magpies, and ravens. Given the choice of their three favorite snacks, these birds were shown to resist temptation by ignoring mealworms, cheese or bread for more than five minutes. Scientists noted that the birds tested looked away from the food as if to distract themselves. However, the ‘Dolci’ and ‘Homer’ birds could only manage a maximum of 20 seconds. More
