Anti-aging but at what cost?

In 1513, Ponce de Leon searched for the island of Bimini near Florida to find the magical spring waters believed to rejuvenate those who drank from it. Today’s attitudes about aging include a 45-year-old CEO who annually spends $2 million on his longevity.

Is there really a fountain of youth?

Hold on to your cash and dock your boat because researchers have discovered that aging is a reversible process, and that it’s capable of being driven “forwards and backwards at will.” According to Harvard Medical School scientists who published their findings in the journal Cell, our bodies “hold a backup copy of our youth that can be triggered to regenerate.”

Take a minute to let that sink in.

So if aging is reversible, why do we age at all? The short answer is that aging happens when there’s a disconnect in cellular communications. Once cells suffer an information loss, the DNA forgets how to function. Using a computer analogy, DNA is the hardware that transmits instructions to Epigenes (software) which are proteins and chemicals that sit on genes waiting for DNA directions. If the DNA is corrupted by pollution, environmental toxins and lifestyle behaviors, the Epigenes malfunction and cause cellular breakdowns aka aging.

With scientific proof that youth can be regenerated, the next step is for scientists to develop the “software” that will make it happen.
