New year health projections

We’re kicking off the New Year with several health and well-being projections based upon consumer behaviors in 2021.

From Gartner’s research findings, it was determined that people are looking for authenticity, identity, and self-esteem. They also desire control, health and reality with a search for safety, security and serenity, particularly in their homes. Our question is, what are the factors that  influenced these projected trends for 2022?

According to Deloitte research, a “craving” for empowerment and transparency are two factors that have influenced the popularity of wearables and employee benefits that reward healthy behaviors. Another factor is how Americans are also concerned about the cost of prescription drugs and health care spending overall. For those in high-deductible health plans, they will continue the trend to use telehealth more than traditional health plan members.

Last year, financial stress was another significant factor with nearly all employees facing financial issues in their personal life forcing three in five workers to reduce contributions to savings accounts. In particular, millennials were challenged in saving money and reducing debt.

Data also showed that most people are looking for more control over their health and that food-as-medicine is gaining traction in peoples’ kitchens. Grocery stores are playing a larger role as a place to source food that bolsters health and to prevent disease, and manage chronic conditions such as for inflammation, diabetes and heart disease.

Do these projected trends ring a bell with you?
