What’s up in the clouds?
It was 1965 when The Rolling Stones told us to “get off my cloud.” In 2009, a movie predicted “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.” Yet today, a bright future is predicted for MedTech and the use of cloud computing.
From a recent interview with Dr. Taha Kass-Hout, chief medical officer and director of machine learning at Amazon Web Services, we captured some takeaways about the benefits of cloud computing for medical device design, manufacturing and capabilities/performance.
What accelerated using cloud computing for artificial intelligence? COVID-19 spurred more innovation and really helped accelerate the adoption of the cloud and appreciation of the scale that can start closing gaps in care globally.
What are specific examples? Cloud computing is enabling software expansion to meet strict data security requirements. It’s also benefiting universal medical imaging accessibility that provides a personalized experience for healthcare providers at drastically lower cost.
How is the cloud assisting with data management? It’s been an ongoing challenge to organize clinical documents, lab reports, imaging reports, handwritten reports and forms, and tables like insurance claims. Organizations are able to make sense of this data with the cloud in order to provide the biggest opportunity to transform care.
Futuristic dreams? Promising innovations like precision medicine, conversational chat bots, intelligent scribes, and APIs for data and interoperability may make healthcare better, more efficient and more equitable in the future.
